Portland is back!

The famed Portland International Raceway returns to the Verizon IndyCar schedule for 2018 according to Robin Miller reporting for Racer.com.

Portland was last on the IndyCar schedule back in 2007 run under the CART/ChampCar series. The race will replace Watkins Glen and is to be held on Labor Day weekend.

Watkins Glen retains an interest in returning to the IndyCar calendar and that the lines of communications will remain open between Watkins Glen and IndyCar.

The return to the Pacific Northwest will be one of six held on a permanent road course for 2018. The remaining races on the calendar will be a mix of temporary road courses (five), with the remainder to be run on ovals. The schedule will include a total of sixteen (16) races.

Portland International Raceway is known to be fast and unforgiving, as Michael Andretti learned one year as this video demonstrates — and this was before the HANS device!
